The SEDG Cell was formed with the following composition of Committee to ensure that students belonging to Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs) "have a safe and secure environment and equitable access to quality education. SEDGC shall promote, circulate, publicize, facilitate, and monitor the implementation of all UGC and Government guidelines and instructions issued from time to time in reference to SEDGs.
To provide comprehensive academic, financial, psychological, and social support to students and staff from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, including SC/ST/OBC categories, minorities, first-generation learners, and individuals from rural and tribal communities.
To promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in education and employment by ensuring fair access to institutional resources, opportunities, and participatory decision-making.
To organize workshops, seminars, and training programmes aimed at sensitizing students, faculty, and administrative staff to the challenges faced by socio-economically disadvantaged groups.
To ensure effective implementation and continuous monitoring of affirmative action policies, reservation norms, and government welfare schemes.
To act as a supportive platform for receiving, addressing, and resolving grievances or complaints related to discrimination or deprivation faced by members of disadvantaged groups.
In compliance with the directions of Pondicherry University to redress the grievances of SC/ST students and staff, and following the retirement of Dr. V. Karunanithi, Associate Professor of Tamil, the administration of Tagore Government Arts and Science College, Puducherry, has nominated the following faculty members as Liaison Officers for the SC/ST Cell:
